Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAP-BAND) weight-loss surgery has been shown to help patients lose excess weight. In fact, recent studies show that patients lose 30-40% of their excess weight (average weight loss) in the first two years after surgery. Weight loss slowly progresses to 50% of excess weight being lost at three years after surgery. Most people maintain this weight loss over five years. However, up to 20% of patients with LAP-BAND surgery fail long-term weight loss.
