Clinical Interest for Patients
My clinical interests apply to the broad field of Surgical Oncology with emphasis on Gastrointestinal Cancers (Esophagus, Stomach, Colon, Rectum), Melanoma, and Sarcoma. I am a firm believer in delivering a multidisciplinary care team approach designed to best suit the individual patient situation. I am also a strong believer in advancing medical knowledge through both clinical and translational research and actively participate in many national and local trials striving to improve cancer outcomes. I am particularly interested in developing new treatments that enhance the patients own immune system to fight cancer.
Care Philosophy
I aim to provide the best possible care taking into consideration the individual patient's specific cancer and treatment goals. Surgery is just one aspect of the team based integrated multidisciplinary care we strive to deliver.

Research & Grants
Research Interests for Patients
My research interests are primarily focused on understanding and overcoming tumor induced immune suppression. Along with my research colleagues, we have active investigations intent on discovering how tumors shut down the immune response to the cancer, and more importantly, find ways to prevent this from occurring. I lead investigator initiated clinical trials developing treatments that enhance a patient's own immune response against tumors. In addition, I work closely with other cancer researchers in developing and applying targeted and immunotherapies therapies for GI tumors, Melanoma and Sarcoma.
