Provider Expertise

Clinical Interest for Patients

I led development of improved endovascular treatment for a wide range of vascular problems, including carotid stenosis, abdominal aortic aneurysm, thoracic aneurysm and dissection. I am currently focusing on developing team-based care for patients requiring spine fusion through an anterior approach.

Care Philosophy

I focus on the patient and family experience. A cohesive team approach is preferred for many complex problems. Most vascular problems may be managed conservatively with excellent long term success.

Research & Grants

Research Interests for Patients

My research interests have been focused on carotid stenosis, thoracic aortic disease, lower extremity ischemia, vena cava filter, and abdominal aortic aneurysm. I have led many pivotal trials that have established improved treatments for patients suffering from these problems. Subsequently, I have been deeply involved in the training of physicians-in-practice on how to optimally use these novel therapies. Recently, I have focused my efforts on studying and improving the team care of patients who require anterior lumbar interbody fusion.

Research Interest for Referring Providers

My research interests are centered on less invasive treatment of vascular disease. I have led federal and industry funded randomized clinical trials for evaluating medical and device treatment of aortic aneurysm. I have a core imaging laboratory with funding since 1998. i have mentored over 35 undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and junior faculty, over 70% of whom are members of underrepresented groups, and have been PI of a Vascular Research T32. I have published over 140 peer-reviewed articles and edited ten books.
