Clinical Interest for Patients
My clinical interests include treating substance use disorders and and applying mindfulness-based interventions to substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety).
Care Philosophy
Substance use disorders often develop along with other mental or physical health problems, which should be addressed alongside substance use for optimal treatment outcomes.

Research Interests for Patients
My research program consists of two broad aims addressing the causes and effects of substance use: 1) understanding the shared mechanisms of heavy substance use and co-occurring conditions; and 2) disentangling familial confounds from the causes and effects of substance use disorders.

Clinical Interests for Referring Providers
My primary clinical focus is on substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors. I have found empirically-supported, mindfulness-based interventions to be particularly effective for addressing these behaviors as well as other co-occurring conditions.
Research Interest for Referring Providers
My research is focused on isolating the direct causes and effects of substance use from other genetic and environmental factors. I use family-study designs to rigorously control for other genetic/environmental factors. I similarly use intensive longitudinal designs to control for individual differences (e.g., personality) that may explain the co-occurrence of substance use disorders and mental/physical health problems.
