Clinical Interest for Patients
My clinical work focuses on substance use disorders, as well as mindfulness-based interventions for substance use and a wide range of other conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety).
Care Philosophy
My work with patients revolves around a philosophy that people do not develop substance use disorders or other psychiatric conditions in a vacuum. It is helpful to acknowledge this, identify what parts of a person's life are related to their substance use or other challenges, and how skills can be applied within these contexts.

Research Interests for Patients
My research program consists of two broad aims addressing the causes and effects of substance use: 1) understanding the shared mechanisms of heavy substance use and co-occurring conditions; and 2) disentangling familial confounds from the causes and effects of substance use disorders.

Clinical Interests for Referring Providers
My primary clinical focus is on substance use disorders and other addictive behaviors, as well as co-occurring psychiatric conditions. I have found empirically-supported, mindfulness-based interventions to be particularly effective in this work.
Research Interest for Referring Providers
Broadly, my research is focused on isolating the causes and effects of substance use from other important risk factors. Specifically, substance use has many genetic and environmental confounds that are typically overlooked. I use family-study designs to rigorously control for these confounds to better inform and develop treatments for substance use disorders.
