Clinical Interest for Patients
My many clinical interests include taking care of children and adolescents with sports injuries or injuries of their bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, or other soft tissue; chronic pain; concussion; medical conditions that lead to functional impairments or disabilities, such as congenital or acquired amputations/limb difference, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, brain injury, spinal cord injury, skeletal dysplasia, hypermobility syndromes, and other conditions that patients may have been born with or acquired later in life that impact their function. I also have a passion for providing sports medicine services to children and adolescents of all abilities, including patients with different impairments or disabilities.
Care Philosophy
Inspired by my own personal experiences as a patient, I strive to provide the best care experience for all of my patients. Having sustained multiple major injuries as an athlete, including an ACL and medial meniscus tear while skiing in medical school, I recognized early on in life the impact that our medical conditions, injuries, and illnesses have on us as a whole, on our childhood and development, and on our families. As a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician (also known as a physiatrist) who enjoys working with children, adolescents, and young adults of all abilities, I am passionate about taking care of my patients with a holistic approach. I focus not only on my patients’ medical conditions, but how their medical conditions affect our function, activities, quality of life, and how we can optimize these areas through recovery and treatment options. I believe it is important to take the time to get to know my patients, including carefully listening to their and their families’ concerns, performing a comprehensive but relevant examination and evaluation, and making sure my patients and their families understand their medical conditions and potential treatment options. I spend time working together with my patients, their family, and our medical team to discuss next steps and treatment options. I take into consideration patients’ and families’ thoughts and concerns as well as current research, to come up with a medical plan specific to their needs. Each of my patients is unique, and therefore each of my patients deserves a personalized approach to their medical care.
