Dr. Melton specializes in the rehabilitation of Orthopedic Trauma with an emphasis on non-surgical management of patients with limb salvage and amputation encompassing pre-prosthetic or bracing management, prosthetic design and prescription, rehabilitation and pain management following patients long-term to provide comprehensive continuity of care.

Volunteer Activities
I serve in many organizations that seek to further research and care for patients with limb salvage and amputation. I am the co-chair for the Limb Restoration Rehabilitation Group of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and am on the advisory board for BCM Orthotics and Prosthetics program. I also serve on the Scientific Medical Advisory Committee of the Amputee Coalition championing Medicare Physician Documentation, and have served on multiple Limb Loss Prevention Task Forces to create Amputee Model Systems. I also serve on the board for Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Program as Amputee Director providing under and non-resourced patients with limb loss much needed equipment, prosthetics, and therapy.

Research Interests for Patients
My research involves novel approaches to treating phantom limb pain and neuromas, limb salvage with Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC) and innovations in prosthetic components. I was selected as the scientific chair for the NIH funded/ Mayo Clinic PI for the Limb Loss and Preservation Registry.
