Interests & Activities

Volunteer Activities

In addition to various institutional committees, I am a member of multiple American Heart Association Committees including Chair of the Young Hearts Nominating Committee, Past Chair of the Young Hearts Council, and Past Chair of the Young Hearts Early Career and Mentoring Committee among other positions. I am a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation, Additional Ventures, and the Children's Heart Foundation. I was a standing member for the NIH/NHLBI study section for Mentored Patient Oriented Research (2018-2023) and currently serve as a member of the external advisory board for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia T32 (research training grant) and for the CHOP Frontiers Advanced Cardiac Therapies for Heart Failure Program. Through these activities, I participate in efforts to improve awareness of heart disease, advocate for patient rights, perform peer-review of individual research grants and research programs and have the opportunity to contribute to national guideline development for children with heart disease.

Research Interests for Patients

My research interest is to identify targeted therapy specific to children suffering from poor heart function. Currently, treatment of children with heart failure is based on what is done for adult patients. Important differences exist between children and adults with heart failure and our goal is to identify treatment options that are appropriate specifically for children.

Clinical Interests for Referring Providers

My clinical interests include the care of children with cardiomyopathy, heart failure and those children who need or have had a heart transplant.

Research Interest for Referring Providers

My research interests include investigation into the molecular level adaptations that occur in the setting of heart failure in children. Specifically in collaboration with colleagues in adult cardiology we are performing investigations utilizing human tissue, primary and cell models as well as various animal models to investigate mechanisms specific to the failing pediatric heart. We also are interested in identifying biomarkers of disease, especially circulating microRNAs, as they relate to risk stratification for children with heart disease. I am also active in pediatric heart transplant clinical research. I am interested in outcomes as well as evaluation and management of rejection and transplant coronary artery disease.
