Research Interest for Referring Providers
My research is broadly focused on prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes in youth. My primary research focuses on how metabolic changes during puberty contribute to risk for type 2 diabetes and overall metabolic health. As a co-investigator, I am involved in studies surrounding the relationship between depression and risk for type 2 diabetes and the use of bariatric surgery for treatment of diabetes. I also oversee clinical trials related to treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes in youth. My research is closely aligned with my clinical leadership roles as medical director of Children's Hospital Colorado Lifestyle Medicine and of the Bariatric Surgery Program.
