Research & Grants
Research Interests for Patients
My research involves clinical management of children with Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome. I have a new small grant from the NIH to look at adding Cholic acid to the treatment regimen which will begin in 2021. I have developed a new center for caring for patients with EDS, and there will be research efforts associated with this work.

Clinical Interests for Referring Providers
I am interested in treating children with underlying genetic disorders, both helping to diagnose the underlying problem and then managing the complex medical issues which are seen. I am interesting in patients with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, a disorder I have been treating since 1993, when I was one of the discoverers of the cause of this complex disorder. I am also interested in caring for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder who have a variety of other medical diagnoses. I have an interest in caring for patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and a new Center of Excellence for patients with Ehlers-Danlos was opened in Nov 2019.
Research Interest for Referring Providers
My research involves clinical management of children with Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome. I participated in a CDC funded project called SEED, which evaluated dysmorphic features in patients with autism. Several papers from the analyses of this study were published in 2020. I am collaborating with Dr Dennis Roop at the Gates center for Regenerative Medicine, on a project looking at Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
