Urogynecology combines the expertise of urology, gynecology and reconstructive surgery to address complex pelvic health issues that affect many women. These issues, collectively known as pelvic floor disorders, can impact your bladder, bowel and reproductive organs.
Common Pelvic Floor Disorders:
- Pelvic organ prolapse: When organs such as the bladder, uterus and rectum lose their support and bulge into the vagina.
- Overactive bladder: Frequent and urgent urination throughout the day and/or night.
- Urinary incontinence: Involuntary leakage of urine due to urgent urination, a weak urethra or when coughing, sneezing or exercising.
- Pelvic floor dysfunction: Problems controlling pelvic floor muscles.
- Fecal incontinence: Difficulty controlling bowel movements.
At CU Medicine Urogynecology – Central Park, we are part of the largest female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery practice in the state. We provide a comprehensive evaluation and approach in treating pelvic floor disorders. For complex conditions, we have developed a multidisciplinary pelvic health program, with colorectal and physical therapy experts working in partnership to cure the interrelated pelvic floor disorders many women face.
Nearly 90 percent of urogynecologic conditions can be diagnosed and successfully treated through lifestyle changes, conservative procedures, and medications, as well as complex surgical options. Our collaborative approach ensures that you receive a comprehensive evaluation and personalized treatment plan that addresses all your unique needs.
