CU Medicine and the University of Colorado Cancer Center Achieve ASCO Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification for their Anschutz Medical Campus and Cherry Creek Medical Center Locations

CU Medicine Medical Oncology – Cherry Creek Medical Center and the University of Colorado Cancer Center have achieved the ASCO Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification, which is a rigorous accreditation program designed to evaluate healthcare institutions and oncology practices based on their ability to provide patient-centered care.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has awarded CU Medicine Medical Oncology – Cherry Creek and the University of Colorado Cancer Center at Anschutz Medical Campus the ASCO Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification. This certification recognizes the commitment by CU Medicine, UCHealth, and the CU Cancer Center to provide exceptional patient-centered care and signifies their dedication to improving the lives of patients with cancer.

Understanding the ASCO Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification is based on meeting a rigorous set of standards that evaluate healthcare institutions and oncology practices based on their ability to provide patient-centered care. It focuses on key areas such as communication, shared decision-making, coordination of care and access to information and support services.

The certification is designed to ensure that cancer patients receive the highest standard of care throughout their cancer journey. The University of Colorado was one of only three academic medical centers included in the program. Four divisions in the CU Department of Medicine (Medical Oncology, Hospital Medicine, Hematology, and General Internal Medicine/Palliative Care) were involved in the project, in addition to Gynecologic Oncology and UCHealth leadership.

"We are incredibly proud to have achieved the ASCO Patient-Centered Cancer Care Certification. This represents the culmination of over 18 months of work on care delivery transformation and data submission. It is a testament to our team's unwavering dedication to enhancing the patient experience and delivering exceptional, personalized care throughout the cancer journey," Kasey Bowden, MSN, FNP, AG-ACNP, Director of Value Based Care in the Division of Oncology and Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine
