Take Action to Keep Your Health First Colorado or Child Health Plan Plus Coverage

Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) auto enrollment is coming to an end. Here’s what you need to know about renewals and staying covered.

Beginning March 31, 2023, Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) will begin returning to normal renewal processes. Those currently covered can take steps now to be sure to get the information needed to continue coverage. Colorado will take 12 months (14 months including notice) to renew members based on their annual renewal date. Some members will be automatically renewed based on the most recent information on file with the state. Others will need to take action and complete the renewal packet to see if they still quality for Health First Colorado or CHP+.

Here's what you can do:

Update your contact information - Be sure Health First Colorado and CHP+ has your current mailing address, phone number, email or other contact information. Visit CO.gov/PEAK or call your county to change your contact information. You can also update your contact information by:

  • Health First Colorado app on your phone. This free app is for Health First Colorado and CHP+ members. Download it for free in the Google Play or Apple App stores
  • CHP+ members can call 800-359-1991 (State Relay: 711). Help is available in multiple languages.
  • Contact your county department of human services.

    Check for official messages - You may get a renewal packet in the mail or an email about renewing your Health First Colorado or CHP+ coverage. If you get a renewal packet, fill it out, sign it and return it right away. You can go to the Health First Colorado app and opt in to notifications that will alert you when you have a new message. You can also get notifications through your PEAK account. This may help you avoid a gap in your coverage. You can create a free PEAK account at CO.gov/PEAK and download the free Health First Colorado app from your app store.

    What if you don’t qualify for Medicaid or CHP+?

    If you or a family member no longer qualify for Health First Colorado or CHP+, you may be

    able to buy a health plan through Connect for Health Colorado, Colorado’s official health

    insurance marketplace. You may qualify for financial help to lower the cost of private health

    insurance.
